  1. Barney Boom, bassist, vocalist, and lyricist for the Sonic Boom Six was kind enough to take the time to answer some of our questions below about the band's extraordinary new album, "The F-Bomb" (Phoenix City Records/Cherry Red).We think it's probably the best ska release of the year (read The Duff Guide to Ska review of "The F-Bomb" here to see how we back up our bold claim)!

  3. Any ideas one might have had about Shades Apart becoming another mainstream pop-punk band are slightly shattered with the release of Sonic Boom. Instead of the bubbly, simplistic form of music that many fans might be used to from this three-piece, Shades Apart steers more toward mainstream alternative rock radio material, thus picking up more in line where Eyewitness left off.
  4. Finally, there is "Rebel Teenager from Mars," an awkward title to say that is perhaps best left unsaid. For fans of Shades Apart's previous releases, Eyewitness in particular, my advice is to forego Sonic Boom. In the mass produced material world of today, consider Shades Apart's Sonic Boom just another item on the rack.
  5. Behind The Wheel Letra: everyone wants to know what happened there, everyone talks and talks, the stories go around, you never used to play those games before, maybe you've become someone else, when you got behind the wheel, who were you then, something had.
  6. Even the cute factor of "Rebel Teenager From Mars" works for the band, taking the traditional "forbidden love" tale and putting a new twist on the plot. What Shades Apart needed to do on Sonic Boom was to come out with all guns blazing, proving to people that the powerhouse that was Eyewitness was no fluke. By not putting their A-list songs at the start of the disc, the band is forced .
  7. Shades Apart • Sonic Boom Republic/Universal Shades Apart find endless pleasure in the unbridled power of the three-piece power trio sound. What makes them more than just a retread of every other group of garage rockers with a couple of guitars, drums and amps is the clarity and precision of the production on Sonic Boom. Producer Phil Nicolo.
